What is the difference between a PAT Engineer and Electrician?
PAT (Portable Appliance Test) providers look after everything from the Socket outward, an Electrician looks after all Services from the Consumer Box (Fuse/Breaker box) to the Electrical outlet (Plug or switch). By using a PAT (PATServeUK Portable Appliance Test) engineer for your testing you remove any conflict of interest that an Electrician may have and a PAT Engineer will only recommend inspection of the Electrical Installation, and should not be in a position to "sell" you this service. An Electrician may offer you this service as part of an installation, repair or service of your main electrical circuits and periodic tests. "In service Test and Inspection" (PAT) is a seperate examination and it should not be taken for granted that an Electrician has the required standard of qualification for insurance purposes.

New Equipment doesn't require Testing. You should carry out Testing as set out by the HSE and the I.E.E. In some circumstances you should carry out visual checks in harsh environments weekly, and we can train your employees in respect of these visual checks. Employees have a responsibility of ensuring the equipment they are using is fit for use.
